Pedagogical Section

The School of Spiritual Science at the Goetheanum, Switzerland, is divided into various sections and faculties. One of these sections is the Pedagogical Section, since the founder of Anthroposophy Rudolf Steiner initiated many innovations for the renewal of modern education.

For the Pedagogical Section, education is the foundation of social progress. The seeds of selfdetermination, tolerance and peace, human rights and international understanding are sown in education. This is the art of Waldorf education.

The task of the Pedagogical Section is educational research and support for anthroposophically inspired pedagogy. One of the greatest aims of the Section is to stimulate a renewal of education out of its original sources in support of and in dialogue with educators active in Waldorf and Rudolf Steiner kindergarten, schools other institutions world wide.

Activities of the Pedagogical Section:

  • Self-initiated and implemented research and development of anthroposophical pedagogy
  • Co-operation with other researchers
  • Establishing contacts with representatives of other educational approaches
  • Organising and running conferences, seminars and colloquia both at the Goetheanum and elsewhere
  • Participation in inter-school activities
  • Visiting schools, working with colleagues
  • Giving lectures
  • Originating publications such as the Journal of the Section
  • International co-work with other Section working groups and international bodies (such as High School Groups, the Friends of Rudolf Steiner’s Art of Education, the IAO, European council of Steiner Waldorf Schools) all over the world.
